Hello friends, welcome to your weekly Motivational Moments with Eric Vickery, president of coaching at All-Star Dental Academy. We are in our phase of talking about disc personality types and understanding not only what they are, why we use them, but who we are individually in that, and what are our strengths in that, what are our weaknesses? And so this week, because I know they are the

ones that wanna get to the bottom line and wanna get to the point first, we’ll start with the D dominant styles. So I want you to picture the four square grid where D dominant styles are in that top left corner for you. And on the top are external processors, extroverts, talkative people, people who are tellers. And on the left side of that square are the analytical task-driven researchers.

you know, problem focused type people, less people focused, but more focused on the task. And so that’s where you’ll find your D dominant styles. They’re extroverted tellers and they’re task driven. Now, this is about 15% of the population, but what I want you to really focus in on here is that these are executors. These are people who do and who tell people what to do. Now, why do they do? Why do they operate this way?

testing in this, the more likely you are to be in this world, and that’s fine. There’s no wrong answers here. Everyone is just different. Different just equals different, not wrong. And so that D style is wanting to tell people what to do. They’re extroverted tellers, and they also feel like it’s normal. So for the opposites of that, the S, the D is going to come off as very bossy when the D thinks this is the normal pace of which we move. There’s nothing wrong with the way we’re approaching this.

So remember D, personality styles, that you’re in a world of, hey, let’s do, let’s get this done. You go do this, you go do that. And that can come across as bossy. Now the reason you’re wired that way is because you wanna maintain control. Your number one thing you want is that control factor. S’s really don’t care that too much, they don’t really speak up, they don’t talk about it, so you just think it’s okay, you just keep going and going. It’s important for you to get feedback.

but for you to ask questions. Now, why is there a number one goal to maintain control? Because their fear is to be manipulated. If you let go of control, that gives someone else control and now they get to tell you what to do. And that’s just how you’re wired. That’s how your personality is wired. So here’s what I would challenge you with. Understand that you like the bottom line, you wanna get to the point. This video is already too long, you got it. Let’s see.

You really wanna run on time, and you wanna get the job done, you wanna hit the goal, and you wanna achieve. I totally get that. Know that there are other people in the room. I challenge you to see it from their perspective for a moment, not that you’re wrong, to see it from their perspective. I want you to be as effective as possible. That means curtailing, using your emotional intelligence to now adapt and go, hey, I’ve got an S opposite of you. I’ve got an S style in my chair on my team.

that I wanna adapt to, that I wanna work with. Let me seek to understand them a little bit more and see what resonates with you and go, oh, I never saw it that way. We’re all learning and growing. Your personality is set at age, what, four, but our emotional intelligence is always growing. You’re always learning on how to improve and grow. So pursue some excellence here. Find moments where you can pull back and say, hey, I can go softer on this. I can get some more feedback.

I can pause and let other people communicate in the room. I can ask questions to get to see what makes this person more comfortable. And here’s the question you can ask. What would be the best way for us to figure out how to do X? How can I make sure you’re as comfortable as possible as we move through Y? Those are things that you can ask this week. And so I challenge you to grow in this as we’re gonna do all four personality styles over the next few weeks, we’re gonna work on how to grow each other. We all have work to do. We all have room for improvement.

I don’t think anybody would raise a room and say, I know it all. Well, maybe the D’s might raise their hand and say, I know it all in a funny way, just jokingly. But just know this, we’re all a work, we’re all in a space of working on improving ourselves. We’re all a work to be finished. Keep growing and make it a great week. All right, guys, have a good one.
