This is Dental All-Stars, where we bring you the best in dentistry on marketing, management and training. Hi friends, welcome to Weekly Motivational Moments. I’m Eric Vickery, president of coaching at All-Star Dental Academy. This week, I want to talk to you about habits, habit stacking. At All-Star, something we really believe in is teaching and training and coaching in a way that allows you to…

00:25

not only form new habits, but then stack the habits. If you have a good foundation, you got that habit down, then you take the next one. And it takes, as you know, seven to 11 times to hear something new to then start to believe it. Then it takes doing an action step, 21 to 62 days to get that habit to stick. I love James Clear’s book, Atomic Habits. In it, he has a quote that I wanna read to you. It says, making a choice that is 1% better or 1% worse seems

00:54

insignificant in the moment. But over the span of moments that make up a lifetime, these choices determine the difference between who you are and who you could be. Success is the product of daily habits, not once in a lifetime transformations. So if you think about that, you’re either making a choice to improve or you’re making a choice to decline, that growth or decline. So what’s the 1%? Last week I gave you a challenge and said,

01:23

What’s one thing you’re gonna do this week to improve? You’re gonna fail at it, but over time, you’re gonna get it to stick and improve. So here’s what I want you to think about. What’s something you’ve tried recently that just didn’t stick? It’s a new habit, it’s a new core belief that you wanna have, it didn’t stick. I want you to go back to it, write it down, get it visual, repeat it, have it something that’s constantly in the forefront. Here’s a simple habit that you can start to put in place. You know this one. When you’re early, you’re on time.

01:52

When you’re on time, you’re late, and when you’re late, you’re lost. It’s a simple habit to put in place, being early, not just on time. That means, if your morning huddle starts at 7.40, showing up at 7.39 and walking in and just being there just in time, that’s probably not gonna work. Gotta be there a couple minutes early. Having a patient seated at 8.01 is not running on time for an 8 a.m. appointment, 7.59 is. So that means starting on time and finishing on time. Set some habits up to allow you to run on time.

02:22

What’s getting in the way of you running on time? This is a simple core value, a simple belief of exceeding expectations for your patients to grow your business. If you think about the columns of growth, each individual team member creates a business to grow. Now you have to think, what habits do I need to improve upon? Maybe it’s organization, maybe it’s running on time, maybe it’s positive mental attitude, whatever that is, put it on repeat now, seven to 11 times. Listen to this over and over again until you really get it. All right, guys.

02:52

Have a great week, create some new habits, make them stick, share them with someone. When you share it with someone, you’re more likely to get it to stick. All right, guys, have a great week. We hope you enjoyed this episode of Dental All-Stars. Visit us online at allstardentalacademy.com.
