Hi friends, welcome to your weekly motivational moments with Eric Vickery, president of coaching at All-Star Dental Academy. Today I wanna talk to you about responsibility. I love this anonymous quote. It says, teachers don’t make you learn, trainers don’t make you fit, coaches don’t make you rich. At some point you have to realize that the other people can help you, but your growth is your responsibility. So what does this quote mean? Well, if you think about the word responsibility.

00:39

Growing in your ability will create a greater response in you, but only when you take ownership. So what does ownership mean? Well, if you think about all the characteristics it takes to create an amazing practice, growth, growth or decline, the pillars of which create amazing business to grow, the pillars are the people who are growing underneath it. So imagine you have this.

01:09

structure, this building, okay? And I see these pillars. And each of those pillars are all each of the team members. And as each of those team members grow, the building, the business grows. Well, if some of them are growing faster than others, it can teeter, it can have a weak foundation. How do we make sure we’re all growing at an even pace so we’re all taking the business to the next level? That is the ownership mentality. Those characteristics are things like showing up early, being disciplined in your effort.

01:38

focusing on how to improve your skill set. There’s no way that you can sit every year as an employee and say, I want a raise every year without the growth happening. Just because the calendar turns, we’re about to turn into a new year, doesn’t mean, OK, I’ve been here another year. I deserve another raise. Because you’re either growing or declining. So which side of that do you want? That’s what determines the raise. Because only the business can give you the raise. If the pillars aren’t growing, the business isn’t growing.

02:09

So a coach can’t make you rich. A boss can’t make you rich. But you can if you take responsibility of it. Have an ownership mentality that says, what am I doing every single day to grow that 1%? Just 1%, a new habit, a new skill set, a new fail, something new that you’re trying. So this week, I want you to think about what is your ownership mentality like? What are you taking responsibility for? What actions are you taking to grow in?
